Kdenlive!

Roadmap

This is the current roadmap showing how we are aiming for the first official release. Dates will become available when it becomes more obvious as to how long it will take to achieve them.

Note that this is a very preliminary roadmap - any version which has not been released may or may not happen - the order of implementing things will very likely change as we discover more about the weaknesses of the current application.

Version Description Estimated Date
0.0.1 The user interface will have reached a stage where it can show off how editing works, no video/sound functionality is expected for this release. REACHED
0.0.2 A renderer exists which is capable of editing video but no sound or transitions. The UI is capable of supporting the cutter's funtionality, and will be integrated with it. REACHED.
0.1 A renderer with basic functionality exists, an embedded video player exists. The program is capable of editing and rendering, with video and audio but no transitions. REACHED.
0.2 No extra functionality over 0.1, the code is hardened up ready for wider adoption. (First public release) REACHED and RELEASED
0.3 Addition of transitions and effects, the necessary architecture for kdenlive to be able to determine what the renderer can do, and to provide the necessary user interface so that the user can make use of it. Timeline editing improves, with the addition of a clip monitor to show previews of clips, and allow in/outpoint editing. n/a
0.4 Addition of Video Capture from ieee1394 and v4l n/a
0.5 Addition of multiple file formats, both import/export, as well as the relevant dialogs to specify the needed frame rate and format for the final video. n/a
0.6 Improved project management. This includes the addition of project clips, and the ability to load a timeline as a project clip. Conversion of parts of a timeline into a project clip will also be supported. Additionally, the project model will be reworked to allow for better manipulation and management of clips, including the ability to check if a clip can safely be removed from the harddrive, or if it is in use by another program. n/a
0.7 The ability to manipulate video and audio seperately is added n/a
0.8 A working scheduler will be added, which will accompany background rendering. It is possible to use a network of computers in parallel to keep the timeline up to date, and it is possible to have multiple clients sharing the rendering processes. n/a
0.9 All functionality for the first release has been added. No new features will be added between this and final release, tidying up, finishing documentation, bug fixes, etc. n/a
1.0 First non-beta release. n/a
