Graphics Developer/Software Engineer on tOG, a realtime 3D broadcast Graphics solution, used among other things to produce critical graphics on BBC News 24, and Virtual Reality sets for The US, Local and General Elections.
I work dually as a software developer, adding new features into tOG, and as a graphics operator, putting graphics worked on by designers and artists into tOG and performing the necessary work to bring these graphics to air, in a time critical environment.
Skills used include C++, Ruby, Qt, OpenGL, Linux, mysql, ffmpeg.
As Junior Software Engineer at this start up company, I worked alongside a senior developer to produce 3D Edit, a non-linear video editor for windows. The editor uses the capabilities of DX9 graphics cards in order to render special effects and transitions in real time. Skills used include C++, DirectX9, Win32 api, Linux, CVS
As Junior Software Engineer, I worked on Warhammer Online in a team of 15 software engineers. I was primarily working on the graphical interface, with plenty of exposure to all parts of the system, including client, server, database, graphics and logic. Skills used include C++, SQL, Tcl, Linux, CVS, DirectX, Visual Studio .NET, Flex & Bison, Postgresql, MS Access
In development for two years, an open source non-linear video editing suite for KDE on Linux. Written in C++ using the QT library. It makes extensive use of XML. Aiming to be user friendly, making full use of the available hardware. I have stopped work on this project myself, however it is still being maintained and updated by other open source developers.
A 2D football game, written in C++ using libSDL for Linux and Windows. The aim is to capture the feel of football games such as Sensible Soccer and Kick Off. Put together partly as a demonstration of my skills, and partly because I want an updated version of Sensible Soccer to play.
A first class final year project. I developed an application framework in Java, using Swing and XML to aid in the visualisation of various NP Complete problems, such as the Hamiltonian Cycle Problem.
Developed for the Guild of Students. It was written in C using the Win32 API under a tight deadline. Designed for the sabbatical elections to reveal and display the results of the election live on-screen as they are read out.
I ran a successful karaoke at the local pub for six months, I am a keen musician, and spend my spare time at the moment setting up a musical duo; a singer backed up with me playing keyboards.
Production manager for 2 years, coded a number of applications for the station, such as Sabbgraph. Involved in numerous filmings and productions. including the sabbatical elections, various dance/theatre society productions, and Later with GTV, a music show which I co-produced, co-presented, and edited.
Chief Engineer in my second year at university; it was my responsibility to ensure that the station was physically capable of broadcast. During the month long broadcasts, I was on call to provide 24/7 tech support. I was part of a team of three people who redesigned and rebuilt the broadcast studio.
